After
a 25 year stretch of recording and performing, the Aces find themselves
in Switzerland, captured in perfect form. Selecting from their more
recent releases, the set is peppered with a few of the old faves like
"The End Is Not In Sight (The Cowboy Song)" and "Love
And Happiness" (always a live pleaser).

In
a tie with Dan Baird, Duane was named "Best Underrated Guitarist"
by the Nashville Scene. Jim Ridley says "Jarvis has backed everyone
from Lucinda Williams to the Divinyls, and that gives a pretty fair
assessment of his range: sympathetic coloring to balls-out sweat 'n'
stomp."

Monies & The Jetsetters- Thinkin Out Loud |

Cash
Monies & The Jetsetter play a distinct brand of black eyed, red-blooded
blue-collar, roots-rock Americana that falls squarely between the
hangover romanticism of George Jones and the southern swagger of Skynard.
The band's sound is a mix of honky-tonk country, southern rock and
Sun Studios rock n roll. The band is set to launch its second CD Thinkin'
Out Loud that was produced by former Georgia Satellite Dan Baird,
who also performs on the 12-song disc. |

To
the recording of the record itself
It was recorded on Broadway
in Macon, Georgia, in the famous "Old Capricorn" Studios,
and was the last full record to ever be recorded there. What history
is in that building! Man oh man! Wow. Sitting in on the record are
a few names you may recognize. Starting the cameos was a local man
who can tickle the ivories with the best of em, Mr. Chuck Leavell.
Chuck makes appearances on tracks 2, 9, and 15. Chuck has played with
the Allman Brothers, Sea Leavel, and Eric Clapton's unplugged record
from MTV and is the key man for the Rolling Stones when he's not here
in Middle GA. growing timber. Also appearing on the record are local
pedal steel man Goose Goodrich, Slip Knot guitarist Mick Thompson,
and a good old Texas boy who wanders into Macon every now and then,
Mr. Lee Roy Parnell, plays slide on track 11. Feelin it Lee Roy! The
one and only Col. Bruce Hampton does a voice over on track 12, "Peach
Cobbler" and you just gotta love the mess out of that song, you
will play it over and over just to hear the Col. Bruce's words and
once again try to figure out what he is really telling us this time!
All Star performers make this band's CD better, but it would have
been great with just the core band. |

| Steve
Wedemeyer- Disclose |
|
BBOCD-013 |
|
|
|
Steve
Wedemeyer was certain of two things when the decision came to record
Disclose: he had something to say and he wanted noted singer, songwriter
and guitartist Jon Dee Graham to help him say it. After listening
to Wedemeyer's home recordings, Graham agreed to put on his Producer
hat. His response to their effort came with great sincerity and fondness.
"It was a joy to work on a record that was about something, with
real honest-to-god songs. It's a hell of a debut, if I do say so myself,"
reveled Graham.
Wedemeyer instinctively created a first-class band to help shape the
eventual direction Disclose would take. Graham's idea to build the
record around two key elements, vocals and guitar, gave the band free
creative reign over their own parts. "The drums, bass and guitar
were cut live in the same room. For the most part, each player was
free to go in whatever direction he felt wasright for the song. I
felt like everyone was in on creating the record," comments Wedemeyer.
The band includes bassist George Reiff (Chris Robinson, Ian Moore,
Ian McLagan), drummer Rafael Gayol (Kelly Willis, Jon Dee Graham)
and guitarist Mike Hardwick (Jerry Jeff Walker, Eliza Gilkyson). |

Train Home- Bound Away |
|
BBOCD-014 |
|
|
|
Fronted
by Washington Post contributor Eric Brace, Last Train Home -- D.C.'s
very own roots rock troupe -- surfs a number of subgenres with ease
on the highly likable Bound Away. Ten members strong, LTH ably brings
forth charging rockers like "Marlene" -- a tune Brace salvaged
from his days in the Linemen -- and pensive, seminal weepers like
Bob Dylan's "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You," but
the group really hits its stride with original material. Be it the
poignant "Hendersonville," a tune Brace reportedly wrote
after visiting the gravesite of Johnny Cash and his spouse June Carter
Cash, or the organ-laden charm of "Flipping Quarters," a
pay-phone heartbreaker -- these songs are deeply emotional and inventive
with flourishes of trumpet and pedal steel. Although Last Train Home's
cover of Paul Kelly's classic obscurity "To Her Door" doesn't
quite match the greatness of the original, the band deserves bonus
points for giving new life to one of the best break-up/make-up songs
ever penned. ~ John D. Luerssen, All Music Guide
